7 fun things to do in Flagler Beach!

Think about this: A small beach town with locally owned stores and restaurants, a massive fishing pier and barely any tourists. Sounds good? Flagler Beach has lots of charm and is severely underrated. Get yourself ready with these 7 fun things to do in Flagler Beach!

The cinnamon colored beach

Park your car (free waterfront parking!) and find your spot on the beach. This is a beach where the locals hang out and surfers ride the waves. This is not your signature beach (white sand and clear blue waters), instead the sand has a cinnamon color and does not cater to tourists like other beaches do. But hey, isn’t that even more reason to go?

Eat at Swillerbees craft donuts & signature donuts

Head on over to Swillerbees Craft Donut and get a sugary treat with your morning coffee. We tried a Maple and Graham Cracker Donut which we highly recommend! Next on our list is their signature donut on a stick. They have a good espresso machine, so the caffeine will hit you in all the good spots. Our order of two donuts and two cappuccinos was about $10. Eat, drink, and head on to the pier.

Flagler beach pier

Check out the pier where all the fishermen are working for their dinner. It’s a great place to grab a selfie and hover above the Atlantic. The pier stretches out far, but used to be even longer before several hurricanes knocked a few pieces off. The cost of walking the pier is $1.50 per person. They only accept cards if you spend a minimum of $3.00.

Flagler beach history museum

This is a place for all the history buffs visiting the area. This charming and small museum has many gems inside. Here are a few topics to explore in this interesting place. Learn about Charles Lindburgh’s surprise visit to Flagler or why turpentine helped jumpstart the Flagler community?

Plan to spend 30 minutes in the museum, and don’t be afraid to ask the local questions about the town’s history. Entrance is free, but they do accept donations.

Eat the catch of the day!

There are a few beachside restaurants to choose from in Flagler. We will offer you two suggestions from our experience- one for food quality and the other for beach vibe. Chill out and grab a bite to eat before getting back to the sand.

Our favorite place to enjoy fresh food is Flagler Fish Company. The restaurant lets you choose a fish from the case and cook it to your taste. Simple, but always fresh and delicious.

For a beach vibe with great views, check out either Finn’s Beachside Pub or Tortuga’s Florida Kitchen & Bar. We chose Tortuga’s Florida Kitchen & Bar and the vibe was amazing. Ask to sit next to the railing to get a good view of the beach and feel the wind on your face.

Washington oaks state park

Washington oaks state park in Flagler

Drive north on A1A and visit Washington Oaks State Park. Here you can see the second largest beach outcroppings of coquina rocks (made out of shells and sand). The shoreline looks different as seasons change, so why not come back and see it again?

The park has big oak trees that act as the centerpiece of an impressive garden. Other opportunities for fun at the park include a 1.7 mile hike and inlet fishing. The fee is $5 per car and you will spend on average 1-2 hours. Something fun and different to do near Flagler beach!

Take a walk down the old A1A at this state park. Visualize what a journey during the 1950s might have looked like for an average family going on a Florida vacation. This was our favorite part of the experience.

Cruise down A1A

Things to do in Flagler Beach: A1A

Head back to your hometown by taking the scenic route. A1A runs all the way down the east coast of Florida and offers you many parks and restaurants to explore. In Flagler, look for the private residence that is covered in Pirate dolls. The drive will put a finishing touch to your day in Flagler Beach.
